Self Storage FAQS

Q: How far in advance can I make a reservation?
A: We will accept and hold reservations up to 30 days.

Q: Do you rent space month-to-month or do I have to sign a lease?
A: Our rental contracts are in 4-week increments. No long-term lease is required.

Q: Are there any set up or move out fees?
A: For traditional storage units, we only charge you for rent per four-week period. For Space Capsule portable storage units, we charge for delivery and pick up of the unit.

Q: How much notification do I need to give when I no longer require the unit?
A: We ask that you give us a minimum of 3 days notice.

Q: What kind of payments do you accept?
A: We accept Visa, MasterCard, debit, cheque or cash. To avoid late charges we recommend that you enroll in our automatic credit card payment plan.

Q: What kind of documentation do I need to provide to rent a storage unit?
A: You will need to provide a valid, government issued driver’s license.

Q: Do you provide locks? Do you keep a key to my storage unit?
A: You can provide your own lock or purchase a lock at any Space at Hand facility. No one else has a key to that lock. If you want us to receive deliveries for you, you will need to provide us with a key to your lock.

Q: If I lose my key and/or access card, what do I do?
A: Call Space at Hand for assistance during regular business hours.

Q: If I rent a storage unit from you, can my family or friends have access as well?
A: You can allow access for other people you specify.

Q: Do you require insurance on my stored goods?
A: You need to have insurance on your contents. You can purchase insurance from us or sign waiver if you already purchased insurance coverage.

Q: Do you have moving carts and dollies available?
A: Yes, we offer both carts and dollies at no extra charge.

Q: How much can I fit in a Space Capsule?
A: The capacity of a Mini Space Capsule is 300 cubic feet. One will hold the contents of a single room apartment typical of a student. A Mini Capsule is also the right size for de-cluttering a home or for providing seasonal storage of a family’s outdoor furnishings, bikes and toys. A Mini Capsule is also perfect for safe storage of business documents, short or long-term. (Long-term storage of Mini Space Capsules is indoors at a Space at Hand facility.)

The capacity of a Large Space Capsule is 1024 cubic feet. One will hold the contents of a large 1-bedroom apartment with appliances, or the contents of a small 2-bedroom apartment without appliances.

Q: Do I have to be at my location when you deliver a Space Capsule?
A: Delivery can be made to your location even if you are not available. We ask that you provide specific positioning instructions when you place your order. Just make sure there is adequate clearance and accessibility at the desired location for your Space Capsule.

Q: Where will you put my Space Capsule when you deliver it?
A: A Large Space Capsule fits in a standard parking space. Usually we place it on a driveway. If you would prefer a different location, just let us know. A Mini Space Capsule is the perfect choice when you have limited space. In this case, one or more Mini Capsules can be delivered and picked up, as required.

Q: Will my belongings shift during transport?
A: We make every effort to avoid this. However, we recommend that you load your Space Capsule the way you would load a truck since we may be transporting your unit up and down hills or over bumpy roads. (See our Storage Tips for specifics.)

Q: Will you load my Space Capsule for me?
A: Space at Hand does not provide this service. However, we can recommend companies that can help you if you require assistance.
